1. I have a 35mm film Canon EOS300V from 2003 and want to go digital as I am tired of wasting money on developing many rubbish photographs. Will my 28-105mm and 75-300mm lenses be compatible with a new Canon Digital SLR body?
2. Which bodies would you recommend for about £300 – £400? Brand new or slightly better second-hand of Ebay?
Any recommendations very appreciated!

Will My Non-digital Canon Lenses Be Compatible With A Digital Canon Slr Body?

Since the EOS 300V have an EF mount, then the answer would be yes. All Canon EOS lenses can be used to a Canon Digital EOS bodies – except if you’re talking about the newer EF-S lenses which can only be used in Canon’s APS-C DSLRs.
So, I believe that your 28-105mm and 75-300mm will fit into the newer DSLR.
For that kind of budget I would recommend an EOS 350D, or an EOS 400D if you can get it at that kind of price. These two are a very good camera and you don’t have to get a second hand camera with that kind of budget (well except if you plan to get more accessories along with your camera).

you can buy a lens adapter ring, however, you lose ALL the metering and aperture control, and its just a normal manual lens…
i have an olympus E500, and a rack of 35mm zuiko lenses, yeah, i can fit them, but why would anyone want to? by comparison, the only lens i have at 35mm is a 28mm F2.8… every other combination is covered by the olympus digital lenses.. 14 to 150 (28-300)

yes your lenses will fit, an eos 400d would be a good choice as it is a pretty even match for the camera you use just now, if theres nothing you feel is missing from the 300v then I wouldn’t spend any more money on a higher spec model.
Two things to bear in mind:
the focal length will experience a 1.6x conversion so you will no longer have a particularly wide angle lens (the 400d comes as a bundle with a suitable though not absolutely brilliant wide zoom lens)
the lenses are designed for film primarily, I used the 75-300 lens with a 400d and found it pretty useless after 200mm (effectively 320mm given the 1.6 conversion) becuase of ghosting and fringing.

No, your lenses will not be fully compatible unless they are EF or EF(S) lenses, these lenses are designed to fit the EOS digital range.
If you are looking at an entry level camera try either the EOS 350D or the more recent EOS 400D. Warehouse Express are promoting entry level packages at the moment.

I agree with the previous answers the lenses will not be completely compatible.
If you go to a camera shop which sells second hand equipment, you may be able to come to an arrangement and get digital lenses as well as a camera. With regard to what you can get I would suggest you go for the highest spec secondhand equpment (with a guarantee).

Your lenses will be 100% compatible, as you have an EF mount that works completely with all current DSLR models.
The EF lenses will work with EF & EF-S mount cameras, but it’s the EF-S lenses that won’t be compatible the other way around.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_EF_le…http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_EF-S_…
It’s similar to the discusson about Nikon AF lenses. The DX series vignettes on full size (FX) cameras and on 35MM bodies. But full sized Nikon mount lenses are completely compatible with the DX digital camera bodies and their smaller sensors.
Not being a Canon photographer, I’ll leave the second part of your question to those more familiar.
I hope this helps.
