I’m in grade 10 and am going on a Euro Trip next year. I am wanting to purchase an SLR from either Canon or Nikon. I’m not wanting to spend more than $1000. Which one should I get?

As you can see, the Nikon owners say Nikon, and the Canon users say Canon! But that doesn’t tell you which brand is the right one for you.
You need to go to a good camera store like Ritz or Wolf, and look at the cameras in your price range. Ask lots of questions and take some pictures with them. See which one feels the best to you when you handle it. See which one has the controls that make the most sense to you. You will know the one for you when you hold it in your hands.
Then get that camera and take a ton of pictures on your trip! Have fun!

I recently went to Europe & took two cameras. One is an Olympus 7.1 mp, 3x optical zoom (smaller camera), and the other a Canon S3 IS, 6 mp with a 12x optical zoom. I got incredible pictures out of my Canon (photographer quality). Unless you’re going to blow the pictures up to poster size, the megapixels don’t matter that much past that level. I did blow some up to 11 x 18, and they were clear. I also got some great shots from my Olympus, which was nice for day trips where I didn’t want to take my larger camera, but the zoom wasn’t as good as my Canon. The 12x optical zoom is important. The higher the number on the optical zoom you can get, the better. I’d also make sure you get something with image stabilization. I’ve had great luck with my Canon (it’s taken a lot of abuse), but I’ve heard great things about Nikons and would consider one in the future so I would look at features and price to decide. Good luck and have fun in Europe! It’s great.

I recommend the Canon 500D/T1i Is enough for your budge. Because It has video HD, 15.1 mega pixel, better quality picture and good build quality. If you want to be Professional, I recommend the Canon 50D is best than Nikon all models. Canon is 1st world. It important are value cost, better feature, better build quality, better quality picture, longer life battery and friendly Eco. I saw the most popular canon than Nikon.
Improvement ( best) ISO performance while shooting at ISO 6400 Than Nikon is poorer ISO performance (lots of noise) while shooting at ISO 6400.
Canon has video HD up to 30mins depend on memory 4GB than Nikon D60 don’t have video, No AF (Auto Focus) and no Live View. And Nikon D5000, D90 are video limited up to 5 Mins and Poorer ISO performance.
Canon:
-Easy to use
-Features self dust cleaning system
-Great and Sharp image quality
-lighter than All model’s Nikon
-Foolproof metering.
- Excellent Color
- Excellent Sharpness
-Live View
Just ignore bad, You will regret waste of Nikon. Canon is best world’s popular. Nikon has a lot problem of issue.

If money is a major factor, I’d go with Nikon. You can get older used & unused and refurbished lenses from them cheaper than Canon and they are just as good as long as you choose wisely.
Even older 3rd party lenses from Sigma, Tamron and Tokina made for the autofocus Nikons will work.
You can’t use as many older, less expensive Canon lenses.

I have a Cannon and that is a really good brand and camera with a lot of features included, some in which I do not know how to operate. You should get a camera with the most megapixels and the highest zoom-in quality. The cannon I have has 10 megapixels with a 4X zoom. You should get a higher zoom quality because it will be better, especially for Europe. I would definately get a Cannon.

Nikon for sure.
I know nothing about Camera’s, but my girlfriend has a D60 and she loves it… she compared it to the Canons at the same pricepoint, and she liked a lot of the things about the Nikon for sure.. and its easy to use.. Ive figured out how to do some neat stuff with it, but I dont really know much….
Also I have a friend who is on her third Canon Rebel. They keep completely breaking down on her.
From what I have been told, [I have a friend who does professional photography for a studio in Toronto] Canon’s lower end [under 1000$] Camera’s are JUNK. Nikon is defintely the way to go, for under 1000$. Over that, and she prefers Canon.
Hope that helps!

I would suggest the Canon G10, I personally just got one. Although it is not a true Digital SLR, it has a great quality picture at 14.7 mega pixels which is fairly impressive for its price point.

Get the Canon Rebel XS or XI. If you are going backpacking in Europe (Eurail), I dont suggest you take an SLR. Its a lot to carry and bulky if you are taking a telephoto and wide angle lens.
