What Is The Best Zoom Lens For Wildlife Photography?

Naturally I need something where I can shoot from a distance. I am using a Canon Rebel XT EOS. I want it for deer, birds, squireels, etc.

This page supports fhotoace’s answer completely: http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Canon…
If you can’t afford this level of lens, you might want to look into the 70-300 “consumer” grade lens: http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Revie…
Whatever you do, though, do NOT buy a mirror lens. You will not be satisfied with theimage quality and you will have to jump through hoops to get the proper exposure as they typically only have one aperture that can not be changed. It is usually something like f/8, which forces you to use a high ISO and/or a slow shutter speed, either one of which is going to work against you trying to photograph animals that are actually alive. They are not zoom lenses, either, and you asked for a recommendation for a zoom lens.

Get the most magnification you can afford.
The biggest bang for the buck are mirror lenses like the Celeston.
Oh yeah and a good sturdy tripod.

To start the Canon EF 100-400mm . Later you may want to buy the Canon EF 600MM F4.0L IS USM.
