I usually buy Nikon SLR&#039;s on craigslist ... you can find a lot for under $600.
If you are looking for a DSLR, then the only one in that price range is the D40.</description>

Either of these are excellent choices, and if money is tight, go for the D40.  It&#039;s a superb performer and you&#039;ll never miss the extra megapixels of the D40x.  Seriously--with digital SLRs, once you hit 6mp, you won&#039;t see the extra megapixels unless you make huge prints and for most people, not even then.  Most people never print bigger than 11x14.</description>
