Find out About Bengal Cats

This guide will educate you about the Bengal cat and provide other beneficial information about the unique breed with spots and stripes.

About the Bengal Cat

It is said that the Bengal cat was created from the Asian snow leopard and a domestic cat and became popular in the 1960′s. The Bengal breed is fairly new as far as other breeds are concerned, and is just starting to be accepted as a show breed. They are rare in appearance and get their name from the out of the ordinary Bengal tiger, even though they are unrelated. Bengals have spotted or marbled coat patterns that are available in a few various colors and the coat is short and smooth.

Their personality is recognized to be very lively and they want a lot of attention from their owners. This is not a typical independent cat as Bengals are very socially outgoing and love to have fun. Bengal cats may not be as accepting to children as other breeds so make sure to think about this before buying one. Socialization at an early age when the kitten is little is very crucial with Bengals.

Taking Care of Bengal Cats

If you decide to find a Bengal as a pet, caring for one will not be terribly hard. They have a glossy smooth short coat that does not need daily brushing although it is effective. You want to provide a constant supply of new food and water. Make sure to start a rapport with a veterinarian and take your Bengal cat on a consistent basis for checkups.

A scratching post and other toys are recommended for this breed as they are particularly active and can get into things if left alone with nothing to do. Bengal cats make excellent companions and wonderful pets when taken care of correctly.

Where to Acquire a Bengal Cat

The top place to find a Bengal cat is locally through a reliable breeder. Browse your local paper or ask your vet if any Bengal breeders exist in your neighborhood. Since the breed is not as widespread and rather new it is probable that there are no breeders in your area. Your next action would be to browse the internet for Bengal cat breeders. There should be a few Bengal cat guides or directories that have a list of breeders in your area. Once you find a Bengal cat breeder that is close enough you can go to them directly and see firsthand if the breeder has healthy kittens. Don’t buy from a breeder that you do not get along with, that has unfit kittens, or has unfair policies. You want to make certain that the kittens are registered and you get a copy of that when you make a deposit.
